lol my kitty Aubis does somethig like this too, if you scratch where his tail meets his back end h e will start out licking whatever is by his face the he gets all meow-full and starts to get alittle bitey, he is no way in pain or anything because if you stop he is purring like an idiot plus if it hurt or aythig like that a cat is smart enough to get up and walk away. congrats on a vocal kitty! i bet he is fun in the middle of the night lol
